This client wanted to create a cozy and romantic master spa retreat with a subtle reference to rustic details in the rest of the home. Elegance, organic style, and an intimate scale were the aesthetic goals when brainstorming design ideas for this project. The master bath renovation for the second floor master wing included removing and redesigning the entire stair area and railing, along with the bath area gut and renovation. Distressed reclaimed beams and lintels were added to reinforce the new symmetrical sight lines and to create a rustic style. Windows were moved and added, along with a custom leaded glass focal window designed for the tub area.
As requested, separate rooms for bathing with his and hers vanity areas were incorporated into the plan. The central focal shower was enclosed within a translucent grass resin panel for privacy and light transfer, accessible from both ‘her’ vanity space and ‘his’ separate vanity and closet area. A light neutral taupe and cream palette of textured tile and custom painted millwork along with polished nickel and hammered nickel fixtures, combine to deliver a desert spa feel with rustic charm. A custom chandelier handcrafted with blown glass hangs in the stairwell providing an elegant modern flair. The custom railing design detail created in the remodel was carried through to other areas of the home, including balconies and the front entry.
This bathroom is featured in the September 2019 issue of Phoenix Home and Garden Magazine.
