In the style of a Spanish Colonial manor estate, this approximately 7500 SF home was a complete renovation of the main house and a separate 2-bedroom storybook casita. The home sits on 1 acre and looks out across private gardens to a wide view of city lights. While many of the original details were full of character and the home had been well-built originally, much of the home needed to be refreshed, re-planned or re-built, including a completely new layout for the second floor primary suite level and a new second stair. The kitchen and all baths of the main home and casita were re-designed to increase functionality and add luxury style, and new aluminum-clad wood Pella windows with custom mullion layouts throughout the home now add more light and more charm. The dramatically large exposed beams were refinished by using a process of walnut-shell blasting to achieve a lighter, more natural wood color. The grand stair in the foyer as updated with limestone treads and onyx-mosaic tiles on the risers, and the Cantera columns and nearby carved fireplace-surround were color-adjusted to appear more like light limestone. We furnished the home and used an overall palette of ivories, taupes and soft blacks, mixed with natural wood tones and soft textiles.
